How it works, what you bring, “I’m a host - now what?”, etc.
Ok, to start with, it’s all just about having fun, getting a little crazy, letting your hair down, flashing your boobs, etc. Larrikins are known for outlandish, comical, rowdy behavior, and for mockery, irreverence, and self-deprecating humor... so you can expect some of that from this hash in the Lehigh Valley.
L2H3 is run “pick-up style”, that means that you don’t really sign up to hare - you sign up to host. Then the hares are drawn by lottery. When you show up with your 6-pack and $3, you sign in and indicate whether or not you want to be included in the hare lottery. DON’T shy away from haring if you don’t know the area - that’s part of the fun! The hare does not plan out a trail, the hare only gets a few minutes to maybe peek at a map, and off they go. Hares only get a 6.9 minute head start (head? who said head?!) before the pack is off after them. That means it’s likely that the hare will get snared! Again, that’s part of the fun of it! If you snare the hare, then you take over as the hare. After a few miles or so, whoever is the hare will bring the pack back to the start. We usually don’t have beerchecks on these trails, because you just can’t plan something when you don’t even know if you’ll be the hare. Now if you happen to stumble into a bar or beercheck situation while you are the hare, that’s great! But don’t let that keep you out on trail too long. Part of the idea is to keep the trail kinda on the short side, get back to the host’s place for some hash chow, then on to merry-making somewhere! That also means that host should have a plan for a bar or place to party that Friday night, or turn it into a party at the hosts place. Just have fun!
As the host, well, you “host”. You provide the start/end location (usually your home) and something for dinner after the trail. Oh, and a plan for some fun later that Friday night!
Whatever you collect for the run fee is yours to offset your expenses (no promises that you won’t have to pitch in a few bucks to make it work - but you should be able to whip up some din-din for about $3 a head (Head? Who said head?!))
You’ll need to provide that dinner, maybe some snacks, water and some soda-pop, about 10 pounds of flour and chalk for the hare, and a map for the hare to take if they need/want.
Each hasher brings a 6-pack of beer and $3 for the run fee, and a sense of humor!
